Job summary

Navarro ISD is seeking a Child Nutrition Services Substitute to support the Cafeteria Manager in the Child Nutrition Services. This as-needed role involves preparing and serving healthy meals, maintaining safety and cleanliness, and assisting with daily operations in a school kitchen.

The successful candidate will follow district policies, work well under lunch-time pressure, and demonstrate a positive, student-first attitude while ensuring high standards of food quality and sanitation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions
• Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
• Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools
• Ability to perform basic culinary math with scaling recipes and portion control
• Must possess a positive “student-first” attitude and the ability to work effectively under the pressure of a lunch time rush

Responsibilities

• Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested and uniform recipes.
• Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures, and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
• Store and handle food items and supplies safely and according to established procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
• Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
• Follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
• Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
• Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
• Report injuries to supervisor.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Handle and record cashier functions accurately.
• Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
• Maintain daily food preparation records.
• Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
• Complete annual continuing education requirements.
• Complete mandatory trainings that are required by Navarro ISD.
• Complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
• Always adhere to professional conduct standards.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
