Summary

The Assistant Kitchen Supervisor supports the High School Kitchen Supervisor in overseeing food preparation, service, and kitchen operations. They will play a key role in managing satellite kitchen locations, coordinating meal production during transitions, and supervising catering events. Additionally, they assist with staff training, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards across all kitchen areas.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with coordinating and supervising the preparation and service of food following standardized recipes.
  • Assist with the operation of satellite kitchens during kitchen renovations, ensuring smooth meal production and delivery.
  • Supervise catering events, including food ordering, staff scheduling, and event supervision, which may require schedule adjustments, evening or weekend work.
  • Manage meal production, food portioning, packaging, and serving line displays to ensure efficient and appealing service.
  • Collaborate with the High School Kitchen Supervisor to oversee both front- and back-of-house operations in a large operation.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards (HACCP, ServSafe) and maintain proper hygiene practices across the kitchen.
  • Fill in for absent kitchen staff (including cooks) and assist with staffing shortages, including cashiering, serving, and food prep as needed.
  • Coordinate daily task assignments, staff schedules, breaks, and assist with payroll and time clock management.
  • Conduct student taste tests and gather feedback to improve meal offerings.
  • Assist in training new staff on kitchen tasks, equipment use, ServSafe practices, and district systems (timeclock, absence tracking, emails).
  • Fill in for the High School Kitchen Supervisor in their absence.
  • Support off-site meal operations during kitchen construction and assist with the setup of the new kitchen post-renovation.
  • Monitor to ensure proper ordering and inventory levels.
  • Review completed monthly inventory before submitted with lead production cook.
  • Hands‑on work ethic in all areas of kitchen procedures.
  • Assist in developing training programs for employees.
  • Assist with training kitchen employees as needed, including cooks.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and/or Certification Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • ServSafe Certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire (certification training, exam and recertifications provided by North Penn SNS department).
Experience Needed
  • Minimum 5 years of food service supervisory experience.
  • School food service experience preferred.
  • Culinary background preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Point of Sale experience preferred.
Knowledge of
  • Organization, procedures, and equipment used in food preparation, cooking, and serving of food in large quantities.
  • Basic elements of nutrition.
  • General knowledge of record‑keeping, simple bookkeeping, and cost‑control procedures.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and office management.
  • Requirements for a National School Breakfast and Lunch Program.
