Job description

There is an opening for a Cook Manager in the School Nutrition Department at Helemdale Road Primary School. This position is 7 hours per day, working from 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Cook Managers report the last week of August.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Responsible for proper receiving and storage of food and supplies.
  2. Work with the Food Service Director to prepare weekly food orders for their specific school.
  3. Prepare and transfer foods and other items.
  4. Set up the prep area, serving line, and cash register for menu items and ease of service; stock shelves, freezers, coolers, and service areas.
  5. Serve and prepare foods properly or operate the cash register efficiently and courteously.
  6. Maintain a clean and orderly workstation; count, store, and return leftover foods.
  7. Assist with cleanup of equipment, dishes, pots, pans, and work areas.
  8. Complete paperwork, recordkeeping, or inventory tasks as required.
  9. Assist the food service director and other staff as requested.
  10. Attend management meetings and participate in professional development.

  1. Monroe County Department of Health L2 Certification is required; Serve Safe Certification or Monroe County Department of Health L1 Certification is preferred.
  2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Food Service Administration, plus one year of paid full-time or part-time experience in preparing and cooking a complete menu of foodstuffs for large-scale consumption in a restaurant, hotel, or institution (excluding short order or fast food); or (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus three years of paid full-time or part-time experience in preparing and cooking a complete menu of foodstuffs for large-scale consumption in a restaurant, hotel, or institution (excluding short order or fast food); or (C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
