Job summary

The Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 is seeking a Substitute School Nurse to provide day-to-day health services in the absence of the regularly assigned school nurse. Assignments may be at any District building, working with students, staff, and families to care for illness, injury, and medical needs.

Responsibilities include reviewing health plans, administering medications, responding to emergencies, and ensuring confidentiality and district policies are followed.

Qualifications

• Registered professional nurse.
• Current CPR certification.
• Previous experience and skills as requested by School Administration.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate support of the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District #123 Strategic Framework.
• Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures.
• Review substitute notes, health alerts, IHPs and ECPs left by the regularly assigned nurse at the start of each assignment.
• Serve as the health care provider in the school during the assignment, meeting student health needs with an understanding of normal growth and development in children and youth as well as students with special needs.
• Use the nursing process to assess student health concerns, intervene, and evaluate care.
• Provide health care for chronic and acute illness, as well as injuries in the school setting.
• Respond to medical emergencies, including administering emergency medications as ordered, using an AED, and contacting emergency services when needed.
• Safely administer and monitor medications that are required during the school day according to policy and in compliance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
• Perform health care procedures as ordered by students' health care providers.
• Implement existing IHPs and ECPs.
