Job summary

Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck, NY is seeking responsible School Nurse Substitutes to provide nursing care during the school day when the staff nurse is absent.

You will administer medications, respond to emergencies, monitor chronic conditions, and maintain confidential health records in line with FERPA, policies, and state regulations.

Qualifications

We are seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and flexible School Nurse Substitutes to provide nursing services during the school day when our staff nurse is absent.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School is a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary( 2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct nursing care to students for illness, injury, and medical needs during the school day
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies
• Monitor and manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc.)
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and life-saving interventions as needed
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with FERPA
• Monitor immunization compliance and communicable disease protocols
• Communicate with families regarding student health concerns and follow-up care
• Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, and support staff to support student wellness
• Ensure compliance with state and local health regulations and school policies
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe health office

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician Assistant (PA), as required by state or school
• Valid state nursing license in good standing
• Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing preferred
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain
• Knowledge of school health regulations, documentation, and confidentiality standards
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple needs simultaneously
• Compassionate, calm, and professional demeanor
• Strong organizational and documentation skills

Hourly rate for this role is $50.00 hour, depending upon education and experience.
