This position works 8 hours per day and 4 days per week (188 total working days for the Fiscal Year) and supervises 5 Health Assistants who are located at Caliche Schools, Ayres Elementary, Campbell Elementary, Sterling Middle School and Sterling High School.

Qualifications
- A valid state license to practice as a registered nurse.
- Colorado Department of Education License in School Nursing
- Two years of experience in public health nursing,
preferably in a school district.
Reports To
Director of Student Services and works closely with Building Principals
Job Goal
To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district
student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate
of health and well-being in the district schools.
Performance Responsibilities
- Coordinate school health services, including physical examinations,
immunizations, and test for hearing and vision in cooperation with Building Principals
and Director of Student Services.
- Coordinate selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
- Supervise & review reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other
agencies on school medical matters.
- Supervise maintenance of up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Observe students on referral by teachers and principals, to detect health needs.
- On call, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member
who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
- Visit student’s homes when necessary.
- Participate with school staff in developing and implementing total school health
program.
- Contact homes of students referred by principals.
- Advise on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of
individual students.
- Prepare and submit reports for the superintendent and the State Board of Health as
needed or requested.
- Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious
diseases.
- Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student
health defects.
- Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health
curriculum.
- Participate in service training programs.
- Collaborate with IEP and 504 teams on health needs of students with such plans
- Collaborate with building principals around developtment of Health Care Plans

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District. The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 14,699 (2020), in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the Front Range (I-25 corridor).
