The Muscogee County School District is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support student health services across schools. Position Details
  • POSITION TITLE: School Nurse - LPN
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • SALARY: $20.20 hourly
  • WORK DAYS: 190/Eight (8) hours daily
  • LOCATION: To Be Determined
  • REPORTS TO: System Lead Nurse

Primary Function: The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide assistance to schools in managing the special health care and medical needs which affect a student’s ability to be successful in school.

Position will remain posted until filled.

Requirements
  • 1. Educational Level: High School Diploma/GED
  • 2. Licenses/Certifications Required: Hold a current license by the Georgia Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse; current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid required. Please upload a copy of your current license/certification.
  • 3. Experience: Minimum of three years experience in public health, hospital or related medical facility; pediatric school nursing experience desired.
  • 4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • 5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to provide specialized nursing services; skills in health assessment of children and young adults; skills in training and performance of health related procedures; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work well with community, school personnel, students and parents
Essential Duties
  • 1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • 2. Perform necessary health procedures that are prescribed by physician’s order and required in order to maintain a student in school.
  • 3. Provide nursing observations of students when requested by school staff as part of assessment for program placement or for contribution to the development of the students individual healthcare plan.
  • 4. Assist schools in managing contagious diseases and infection control procedures.
  • 5. Assist school personnel, students and parents in understanding and managing student health problems in order for the student to be successful and remain in school.
  • 6. Serve as a liaison between school and physician or other health professional and between the school and the Public Health Department on questions or issues regarding eye, ear, and dental examinations, immunizations, contagious diseases, and infection control.
  • 7. Participate, when requested by the school, in SST and IEP meeting and student staffing, as necessary when health or medical issues are being considered.
  • 8. Serve on the school’s Crisis Management Team.
  • 9. Evaluates student responses to prescribed interventions and the efficacy of the interventions and executes and documents the nursing interventions noted in an Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP), Section 504 Plan, or Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
  • 10. Serve as a consultant to school clinic worker, as indicated; review and monitor clinic procedures and report to the Itinerant RN for the assigned school/s.
  • 11. Provide in-service/training for faculty, staff and students on appropriate health related subjects and procedures.
  • 12. Provide input for Itinerant RN and Lead School Nurse in establishing system health procedures, policies and protocols/guidelines, including development, review and revision of the Health Services Handbook.
  • 13. Perform other related health and nursing service duties as determined necessary
