Job summary

Edgecombe County Public Schools in Tarboro, North Carolina, is seeking a School Nurse to provide planning, coordinating, and evaluating school health services. The role focuses on increasing in-class time by reducing health-related absenteeism and promoting student wellness.

The ideal candidate is an RN with NC licensure, pursuing BSN or already certified as a School Nurse, and experienced with children aged 5-18. A driver’s license and adherence to district health protocols are required.

Qualifications

• RN working toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing or health-related field with attainment of the baccalaureate degree and national school nurse certification within 3 years of hire date.
• RN experience in public health is preferred.
• RN experience working with children and adolescents ages 5-18 is preferred.
• A newly hired nurse shall attend the state-sponsored School Nurse Roles and Responsibilities training and follow-up.
• Registered nurse, currently licensed in North Carolina.
• Current North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating school health services to maximize class time and learning.
• Apply nursing practice to diverse needs of students and school populations.
• Uphold nursing standards as per NC Nursing Practice Act and district guidelines.
• Provide health assessment, care planning, intervention and case management for students.
• Identify health needs and coordinate health services and community resources.
• Collaborate with families and school staff to minimize barriers to learning.
