Job summary

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School is seeking a full-time school nurse to serve as the health and wellness expert for our campus.

The role supports approximately 1,000 students across lower and upper campuses, 10 months per year, with oversight of medical records, policies, and patient care during the school day. The successful candidate will manage diabetic and other medical conditions, maintain immunization and physical exams compliance, and coordinate with families and health agencies

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Texas is required.
• First Aid and CPR certification must be current.
• Minimum two years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a school/pediatric setting.

Summary of Position:

St. Michael’s Prep is looking for a school nurse to serve as the health and wellness expert for our school.

This position serves approximately 550 students in grades PreK-8th grade on the lower campus and approximately 450 students in grades 9-12 on the upper campus. This is a full-time exempt position working alongside our nursing staff, working 10 months of the year.

Candidates must:

• Provide quality nursing care to ill or injured students or faculty/staff during the school day
• Have experience with diabetic children and their daily health care needs
• Have experience with managing other unique school-age medical conditions
• Have experience with managing a peanut “aware” environment
• Provide quality nursing care to ill or injured students or faculty/staff during the school day
• Provide health information and in-service programs on health topics to students, parents, and faculty
• Manage school health records in accordance with the State of Texas, as well as the Diocese of Austin requirements
• Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions
• Initiate contact with, and act as a liaison between, home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community
• Maintain electronic health records within the school website system. (Experience with cloud based electronic student health record and compliance software)
• Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, staff, and school families to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of the students
• Aid in the development and maintenance of school health policies
• Coordinate student health curriculum with physical education department
• Multitask and manage well the simultaneous needs of diabetic students and medication or first aid administration to other students
• Provide medical oversight and first aid care during occasional off-campus retreats and after-school programs

Requirements

Candidates should have:

• Knowledge of children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development
• Be excellent communicators, possessing outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal skills, both with children and adults
• Care, good judgment and confidentiality in working with students and parents
• Strong organizational skills

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure-Current in the State of Texas
• Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
• Minimum of two years' professional nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
