Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in response to the nursing assessment.
  • Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment.
  • Administers medication with appropriate documentation per policies and procedures and within the confines of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and medical records including School-Based Medicaid.
  • Performs duties that may include trach care, G-tube feeding, catheterization, ostomy care, diapering/toileting, and positioning/lifting.
  • Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
  • Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Job Summary

Administers nursing care to ill, injured, or disabled students; consult with families and medical professionals to coordinate student care; provides professional development and develops networking with area agencies to promote health services for students; assesses student health needs, develops, and implements nursing care plans and emergency medical plans, and maintains medical records; serves as the health specialist as a member of the educational team to assist in evaluating and planning programs for students.

Salary

Per Certification and determined by LEA (Starting at $52,657) or LEFA (Starting at $37.32/hr.) Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support and Organization
  1. Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in response to the nursing assessment
  2. Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment
  3. Follows an established communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and state public health agencies
  4. Participates in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practices
  5. Administers medication with appropriate documentation per policies and procedures and within the confines of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
  6. Provides nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff as required
  7. Performs duties that may include, but are not limited to, trach care, G-tube feeding/oral feeding, catheterization, ostomy care, diapering/toileting, and positioning/lifting
  8. Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
  9. Maintains accurate, detailed reports, and medical records including School-Based Medicaid
  10. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
Communication
  1. Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community in compliance with federal and state confidentiality requirements
  2. Maintains communication with the school nurses, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians
Professional Responsibilities
  1. Assumes responsibility for professional growth by participating in professional development activities.
  2. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel
  3. Responds professionally to feedback
  4. Demonstrates regular on-site attendance
