II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Enhances the educational process by promoting an optimal level of health for students and staff.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Licensed as a Louisiana Registered Nurse.
- EXPERIENCE – Two (2) years experience as a Registered Nurse.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Ancillary Louisiana Teaching Certificate must be acquired within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter in accordance with State Board of Education guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists schools in maintaining student health records.
- Assists in verifying state required immunizations of students.
- Performs vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening according to state guidelines.
- Develops individualized emergency/health plans on identified medically fragile students as necessary and shares this information with appropriate school personnel.
- Serves as a resource person in the identification of possible communicable diseases at the school site and takes appropriate action.
- Supervises the administration of medications in the schools.
- Conducts planned in-service/training for school personnel and students.
- Serves as a liaison between the parents, teachers, and other school personnel in matters of health.
- Helps formulate policies and procedures in conjunction with the school nurse coordinator, supervisors and directors related to health issues as needed.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents.; Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
- Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

- Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher
- Supervision
- Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
- Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
- Supervision of students in the classroom
- Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
- Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned
- Non-instructional Components
- Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
- Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
- Attend training sessions
- Attend IEP meetings
- Attend parent-teacher conferences
- Attend back-to-school and open-house events
- Attend graduation
- Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
- Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request
- Extracurricular Activities
- Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
- Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
- Performs other duties as required.
