Job summary

Elk River Independent School District 728 is hiring a Cook Helper to prepare and serve nutritious school lunches in collaboration with a team of Cooks. The role maintains a safe, sanitary kitchen and supports daily operations in the district's food service program.

The Cook Helper will assist with food preparation, cashier tasks, inventory, and data reporting, helping ensure meals are served on time and in accordance with nutrition standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of proper cooking methods, serving, equipment care and sanitation.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Ability to maintain good relations with students, staff and parents.
• Basic math and cashier skills for cash handling and measurement.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (>50 pounds).
• No allergies to kitchen/cleaning chemicals.
• May work caterings or extra hours if needed.
• Training or use of computer equipment is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve student lunches according to nutrition standards and act as cashier as needed.
• Assist Head Cook with hot food preparation and opening cans for timely service.
• Assist in final food prep to ensure readiness for serving.
• Clean lunchroom and kitchen areas and equipment for the next day.
• Wash trays, dishes, pans and utensils for readiness.
• Transmit daily data to Food Service Manager.
• Maintain cash banks and cashier logs; deposit daily sales data.
• Report meal counts and enrollment info to supervisors.
• Notify students/parents about low balances when needed.
• Assist with grocery delivery and stocking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
