Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking a Library Assistant to support the library media specialist, assist with instructional lessons, and handle routine clerical duties in a school library setting.

The role involves processing materials, managing circulation, shelving, and aiding students and staff with library resources and databases, while contributing to a well-organized learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Knowledge of library procedures and filing systems.
• Interest in children’s literature.
• Ability to learn use of equipment quickly with some training.
• Ability to read, alphabetize, file, type and perform basic clerical tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with staff, students, parents and the public.

Responsibilities

• Assist in processing new and discarded library materials.
• Manage circulation transactions.
• Shelve materials.
• Assist librarian in repairing books.
• Help students and teachers locate materials and use library technology/databases.
• Assist in preparing and implementing special programs, inventories, and library lessons.
• Maintain an attractive, organized learning environment.
• Prepare correspondence and other materials as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
