Overview

School Librarian (Anticipated) – JobID: 1624. Position Type: High School Teaching. Location: District Wide – all schools available.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and supervise the media center.
  • Evaluate, select and requisition appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment, and maintain inventory records.
  • Assist students in evaluating aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of standardized test scores and other pertinent data; help students develop education and occupation plans aligned with such evaluation.
  • Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to assist in the selection of books and instructional materials; inform students and staff about new acquisitions for use in the media center.
  • Serve as a ready resource to students to provide research assistance.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials; assist students and teachers with the system.
  • Coordinate a system for lending library materials to students and teachers.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain an accurate and complete record-keeping system and provide student information to prospective colleges and employers as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and district policies; establish and maintain standards of student behavior in the media center.
  • Participate in lessons with classroom teachers.
  • Develop and arrange media center displays.
  • Assist with the preparation and administration of the media center budget.
  • Train and supervise media center support employees.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications
  • Certification/License: PDE Library Science certification; Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
