POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Librarian works collaboratively with the Director of Instructional Technology & Media to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive library program that supports teaching and learning by integrating information literacy, digital citizenship, and literature appreciation across the curriculum. The librarian collaborates with teachers to design instruction, manages library resources, promotes student inquiry, and supports the school’s mission to build lifelong learners. This role aligns with the updated standards set forth by the Georgia PSC for School Librarians (2025 revision).

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate will hold a valid Georgia professional certificate in the field of School Library Media or School Librarian (P-12). A master’s degree in Library Media, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of library systems, instructional design, digital tools, and literature appropriate for children and young adults. Prior experience in an educational setting is preferred, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with both students and staff in a dynamic school environment.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide leadership in developing a school-wide culture of literacy and learning through the curation of print and digital resources.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and instructional staff to integrate information literacy and research skills into standards-based lessons.
• Provide instruction to students and staff in the use of current and emerging technologies, databases, and other informational tools.
• Ensure equitable access to resources for all students, including support for differentiated and inclusive instruction.
• Manage the library collection, including selection, acquisition, cataloging, inventory, and weeding, in alignment with district policies.
• Promote a love of reading by planning and implementing reading initiatives, book promotions, author visits, and other library events.
• Maintain a safe, inviting, and intellectually engaging library space that reflects current best practices in design and pedagogy.
• Serve as the digital content specialist, supporting teachers with technology integration, digital tools, and copyright guidance.
• Responsible for actively seeking out and applying for funding grants to support the library's programs, resources, and growth initiatives as guided by the district library media coordinator.
• Responsible for utilizing Destiny Follett software to maintain accurate school and library inventory, ensuring proper tracking and management of resources and materials.
• Collaborates with the district library media coordinator to support the Wildcats on Wheels bus initiative and actively seeks book donations to enhance the program's resources and promote literacy in the community.
• Partners with the technology department by maintaining accurate records of Chromebook locations within the school to ensure efficient tracking and distribution.
• Maintain accurate records and submit reports as required by school administration and district officials.
• Uphold professional ethics and district policies in all interactions and responsibilities.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and District Office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers.
