Job description

Summary of Assignment

Under the direction of the Kitchen Manager or designee, perform skilled cooking or baking to ensure high-quality, nutritious food production and service. May lead assigned staff in meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing and serving attractive, high-quality, nutritious, and cost-effective meals following standardized procedures, including cooking or baking according to the established work schedule, menu planners, and meeting District standards.
  2. Completing tasks within the allocated time.
  3. Complying with approved safety and sanitation procedures.
  4. Assisting in cleaning the kitchen, equipment, tables, and storeroom as scheduled, and reporting equipment malfunctions to ensure safe working conditions.
  5. Maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories.
  6. May direct or assist unit employees in meal preparation to handle emergencies, training situations, or as necessary to maintain cafeteria operations, as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or designee.
  7. Maintaining daily records and reports and submitting them to the Kitchen Manager.
  8. Collecting money and accounting for meals served according to established procedures, manually or by computer if requested.
  9. Maintaining a plate count record of meals served.
  10. Promoting Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation.
  11. Assisting school staff in promoting proper nutrition.
  12. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relations with others.

Perform related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to stand and walk for prolonged periods; ability to lift up to 25 lbs.; carry, push, stoop, reach, and perform fingering functions.

Must shift tasks and priorities, handle frequent interruptions, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability. Perform repetitive tasks, use individual initiative and teamwork, and communicate effectively with students and adults, including in difficult situations.

Requires effective decision-making and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate with difficult individuals; excellent listening skills; adaptability to change; and remaining flexible.

Normal far vision, depth perception, and color vision are required.

May be exposed to general cleaning chemicals.

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. Meeting minimum qualifications for Assistant and Satellite Servers.
  2. One year of experience in commercial or institutional food preparation.
  3. Ability to utilize fundamentals of meal preparation.
  4. Skills to plan menus and adjust recipes.
  5. Competency to complete and maintain all records as requested and substitute as needed.
