Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a reliable School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties at a K-12 or higher education campus. Shift: Monday through Friday, 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with occasional adjustments as needed.

Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom and classroom cleaning, dusting, and maintaining compliance with safety standards. Prior experience is not required; on-the-job training is provided and ABM supports veterans and diverse applicants.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required; on the job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.
• Preferred: prior customer service experience.
• Preferred: one year of prior similar work experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and offices.
• Sweep, mop floors, remove debris, and manage spills in designated areas.
• Empty trash and manage recycling in all designated zones.
• Follow safety procedures when using chemicals and power equipment.
• Notify supervisor about repairs or replacements needed for building systems.
• Communicate effectively with clients, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Dust desks, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, and walls.
• Polish hard surfaces and wipe tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
• Move furniture or equipment as needed for cleaning tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and comply with standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, which may include classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, office, and stairways
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas
• Regularly check trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all designated areas
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers, etc.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceiling, and walls
• Polish hard surfaces, e.g. woodwork, stainless steel surfaces
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
• Maintain the cleanliness of restrooms (clean and polish as needed)
• Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities
