The School Intervention Caseworker will be responsible for collaborating with schools, families, juvenile court, and community organizations to develop and implement intervention strategies that address the root cause of truancy/educational neglect. This position will work collaboratively with community partners to resolve educational neglect and improve overall school success by participating in absence intervention meetings, as well as collaborative meetings with schools and families. This position will require dual supervision between Fairfield County Protective Services and the Educational Service Center to assure the best outcomes for families involved in the Community Attendance Program.

Description

The School Intervention Caseworker will be responsible for providing case management services to youth within Fairfield County where there are concerns for truancy and/or educational neglect. The School Intervention Caseworker will be responsible for collaborating with schools, families, juvenile court, and community organizations to develop and implement intervention strategies that address the root cause of truancy/educational neglect. This position will work collaboratively with community partners to resolve educational neglect and improve overall school success by participating in absence intervention meetings, as well as collaborative meetings with schools and families. This position will require dual supervision between Fairfield County Protective Services and the Educational Service Center to assure the best outcomes for families involved in the Community Attendance Program.

Duties

50% Provides supports to families through case management services regarding concerns of truancy, educational neglect, or the prevention of educational neglect. Conducts interviews of adults and children at various locations, including home visits, by gathering information, and working with community partners and/or collateral sources. Provides interventions to alleviate crisis and reduce risks to children by engaging the family, community partners, specifically schools, and referring for service linkage. Works collaboratively with the Educational Service Center, Truancy Case Managers, Law Enforcement, and Attendance Case Managers to resolve educational neglect and improve overall school success by participating in absence intervention meetings, collaborative meetings with school personnel and families, as well as dual supervision with the Educational Service Center. Identifies family strengths and needs for decision making and absence intervention plan development; determines alternative treatment plans as necessary; Inform families of the legal implications of truancy and collaborate on intervention/prevention measures. Refer cases to Attendance Officers to initiate and participate in legal proceedings related to enforcing state attendance laws, as needed. Consistently gathers information and assesses for potential abuse/neglect/dependency concerns for families who are being provided case management services consults with their supervisor regarding the need to make child abuse/neglect/dependency referrals.

40% Maintain comprehensive records of interventions, referrals, and compliance efforts. Analyze attendance data to identify students at risk of truancy or education neglect. Attend school meetings and court meetings when required.

10% Assist in the transition and monitoring of students transferring between school districts by participating in mandatory meetings by serving as a liaison between schools, courts, social service agencies, and law enforcement. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of undergraduate major core coursework or two years technical training in behavioral science, social science, early childhood development technology, education or related field.
  • Or four courses in behavioral science one of which must be in child development or two years’ experience in behavioral science of which 6 months must be in the area of child development, one course or six months experience in business mathematics, one course or six months in experience in interviewing, one course or six months experience in typing, keyboarding or word processing.
