Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a School Health Assistant II to support student wellness on campus. This full-time position (6½ hours per day) assists the school nurse with first aid, routine health checks, health room maintenance, and student wellbeing.

Key duties include administering emergency care, taking temperatures, supervising medications per guidelines, notifying families of illness or injury, and conducting health screenings.

Qualifications

• Possess current certification in first aid.
• Possess current CPR certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; and verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Administers emergency first aid care to ill or injured students.
• Takes temperature, permits students to rest in health room as necessary and observes symptoms.
• May administer medications per strict program guidelines with approvals.
• Contacts parents or guardians of ill or injured students.
• Performs health-related screenings (hearing and vision) and records health data.
• Maintains a clean health room and health records; coordinates with health staff.
