Job summary

Responsibilities include assisting in the school health program, administering first aid, maintaining health records, and coordinating referrals with the school nurse. Requires licensing eligibility and current First-Aid/CPR certifications where applicable.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Post-secondary education in related topics preferred.
• Eligible for New Mexico Instructional Assistant's License.
• Current Red Cross First-Aid certification or equivalent and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Follow local, state and federal laws and school policies.
• Maintain confidentiality and positive working relationships with staff and community.
• Assist in maintaining the school health records system.
• Administer first aid for injuries and illnesses.
• Assist with health screenings and refer to school nurse as needed.
• Refer student health issues to the school nurse for follow-up.
• Carry out routine office procedures in health office.
• Assist with immunization records and health documentation.
• Perform nursing tasks as delegated by the school nurse.
• May supervise students in self-administration of medications.
• Notify parents for ill students when appropriate.
• Assist in non-instructional duties such as hall, lunchroom, and grounds monitoring.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
