Job summary

The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking qualified candidates for School Health Assistant I and II positions, both classified as full-time at 6½ hours per day. The assigned level may be I or II (SR-09 or SR-11) depending on experience and recruiting needs.

Responsibilities include administering first aid, health assessments, medication administration under guidelines, health screenings, keeping records, and coordinating with the school health staff to maintain a safe health

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Current certification in first aid and CPR.
• Ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions with good verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Administers emergency first aid care to ill or injured students.
• Takes temperature and monitors health of students in the health room.
• May administer medications under strict guidelines with approvals.
• Contacts parents/guardians regarding illness or injury.
• Performs health-related screenings (hearing, vision) as directed.
• Maintains health records and coordinates with health staff.
• Provides basic health instruction to students.
• Renders CPR and basic first aid for staff as needed.
• Coordinates health-related speakers and wellness activities.
• Supports a safe and healthy school environment.
