Crave-It Nutrition is seeking a dependable and energetic School Food Service Worker to
support the lunch program at BASIS Leander in Leander, TX. This position is ideal for
someone who enjoys working with children, providing excellent customer service, and
being part of a fast-paced team environment.
The primary responsibilities include serving meals to students, packaging food items,
operating a point-of-sale (POS) system, assisting with basic food preparation, and
maintaining food safety standards. The ideal candidate is coachable, reliable, positive, and
understands that customer service is a critical part of creating an enjoyable dining
experience for students. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for part-time daytime hours in a school
Compensation & Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 5 hours per day
Key Responsibilities
Food Service & Student Interaction
- Serve meals and snacks to students according to established procedures
- Assist with packaging and preparing simple food items
- Maintain proper portion control while minimizing food waste
- Provide friendly, professional service to students and school staff
- Create a welcoming and positive dining experience
Point-of-Sale Operations
- Operate a register and POS system for snacks, beverages, desserts, and additional food purchases
- Use an iPad, laptop, or other electronic devices to process transactions
- Accurately record purchases and handle student checkouts
- Follow all health department regulations and food safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness of serving areas, workstations, and equipment
- Properly hold, serve, and handle food to prevent food‑borne illness
- Assist with basic food preparation when needed
Team Support
- Follow instructions from the Site Manager and leadership team
- Work collaboratively with a team of approximately 5–7 employees
- Help ensure smooth and efficient meal service operations
- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to learn
Transportation & Flexibility
- Personal vehicle is preferred but not required
- Must be willing to make occasional grocery store or Sam's Club runs when needed
- Mileage reimbursement may be provided for approved work-related errands
Essential Functions
- Assist with packaging and serving meals to students
- Pass out and serve meals during scheduled lunch periods
- Operate food service equipment safely and effectively
- Use POS systems and technology confidently
- Stand for extended periods of time during meal service
- Lift up to 50 pounds when necessary
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
- Pass a criminal background check
Qualifications
Required
- Basic understanding of food preparation, food handling, and serving procedures
- Ability to operate a POS/register system
- Basic cooking knowledge and familiarity with kitchen equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to follow directions and learn new procedures
- Positive attitude and willingness to be coached
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred
- Previous food service, restaurant, cafeteria, or school nutrition experience
- Experience working with children or in a school environment
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and cash handling
Appearance Requirements
Visible tattoos are permitted; however, they must be covered while working within the school environment.
