Job summary

Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale, FL seeks a Food Service General Worker (Assistant I) to prepare and serve nutritionally adequate meals, meet production deadlines, and ensure food quality. Responsibilities include food production, service, safety, sanitation, and occasional vehicle transport to satellite sites.

Minimum qualifications include prior food service or cashier experience, ability to read and communicate in English, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Prior food service or cashier work experience.
• Ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English.
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, school administrators and other Food & Nutrition service-related personnel.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning.
• Participate in on-going state-approved training relating to Food & Nutrition Services.
• Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service with the public, students, parents and staff.
• Operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines when assigned.
• Adhere to food safety rules, HACCP, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Perform kitchen duties including pre-preparation, production, service, cleanup, and check-in orders.
• Assist in ensuring meals are safe and meet meal pattern requirements.
• Assist with ordering, storage and inventories for supplies and food items.
• Follow recipes, record usage, leftovers, and temperatures on worksheets.
• Operate and maintain food service equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean work environment and proper sanitation.
• Assist with transporting to satellite sites and driving as directed.
• Follow all laws, policies, and equal employment/non-discrimination guidelines.
