Job summary

Great Hearts Academies in Texas is seeking a Facilities Technician to install, repair, maintain, and upgrade facility systems at its Western Hills Lower and Upper Schools. You will be the first point of contact for building issues, coordinate with contractors, and perform preventive maintenance while supporting small construction tasks.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and willingness to travel locally.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for school personnel for building issues.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure work meets specifications.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with small construction and repair projects.
  • Maintain building security and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform basic electrical tasks as required.
  • Assist with moves and transportation of goods or equipment.
  • Oversee quality inspections of janitorial and landscaping subs.

Location: Great Hearts Western Hills Lower and Upper Schools (shared)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Facilities Technician

The Facilities Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading facility systems and equipment; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; assisting other skilled trades; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner, and directing assigned workers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for school personnel for any building issues (climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies, and repairs)

  • Monitor/assist contractor and outside vendor performance to ensure work is completed according to specifications

  • Independently perform routine scheduled preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment

  • May act as the project coordinator for small construction and repair projects

  • Assistwithmaintainingbuilding security andimmediatelyrespond to building emergencies on an as-needed basis

  • Monitor, replace and obtain light bulbs in all assigned facilities

  • Perform basic electrical work anddeterminewhen an electrician isrequired

  • Hang pictures, whiteboards and dismantle/install furniture as needed

  • Coordinate andassistwith departmental and employee moves

  • Transport goods or equipment as assigned

  • Perform routine quality control inspections of janitorial and landscaping subcontractors to ensure the property ismaintainedproperly

  • Assist the Operations Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budget

  • Solicit bids and quotes from vendors

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, work in tight or confined spaces, work with lifts and ladders, and perform rooftop work

  • Ability to perform work in varying environments; may berequiredto work outdoors 95% of the time and exposed to the elements and inclement weather

  • Must have or be willing to obtain andmaintainall necessary tools to perform daily tasks

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical degree preferred

  • Experience in general construction along with a mechanical aptitude

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English

  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment

  • Fortitude to complete all tasks independently, properly, and on time

  • Ability to thrive in academic entrepreneurial culture and interact with all levels of management, staff,studentsand their families.

  • Possess adequate computer skillsutilizingMS Office Suite applications and the ability to use all functions of a smartphone

US work authorization isrequired

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
