Greater Bergen Community Action, Inc. in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician for the Head Start program. The role ensures facility upkeep, safety, and compliance across schools and administrative spaces.

The position focuses on routine preventive maintenance, custodial tasks, and collaboration with the Buildings & Grounds team to support a safe learning environment for children and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• English fluency – speak, read, and write.
• Basic knowledge and experience in carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and mechanical tasks.
• Skilled in the use of hand power tools, safety-conscious.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must be observant and report suspicious activity to security personnel and supervisor.
• Ability to perform physical labor, incl. lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, standing.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving history.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds.
• Ensure buildings and grounds are in good repair and free of hazards.
• Assist with renovation/remodeling of buildings.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment, buildings, and grounds.
• Inspect HS/EHS schools for safety hazards and report deficiencies.
• Transport materials, supplies, and furniture as directed.
• Assist with repairs of agency vehicles.
