Job summary

Williamsburg James City School District is seeking an Electrician to repair, maintain and install electrical systems and equipment in the Operations division. The role includes testing equipment, wiring inspections and ensuring compliance with building codes and safety standards.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, substantial apprentice-level experience, and a valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Considerable experience as an apprentice electrician.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record.
• Knowledge of national and local electrical codes.
• Ability to read service manuals and test equipment instructions.
• Knowledge of theory, application, diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test instruments (ammeter, oscilloscope, test lamp).
• Repair malfunctions by replacing burnt-out elements and fuses, by-passing or replacing wiring, filing switch contacts and rewiring motors with hand tools.
• Test electrical equipment such as generators and heaters for safety and efficiency using standard test equipment.
• Install fixtures, motors, and other electrical equipment and make adjustments with hand tools.
• Inspect circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding; repair or rewire according to codes and safety regulations.
• Supervise ICT students, summer workers and others as assigned.
• Respond to work orders and consult applicable electrical codes.
