Job summary

Williamsburg James City School District OPERATIONS - Williamsburg, Virginia is seeking a Maintenance Assistant (12 months) to perform semiskilled carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work under supervision. The role includes handling maintenance work orders and preventative maintenance on systems and equipment.

Starting date is immediate; the position is non-exempt with a Unified Salary Schedule (Grade U03).

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Fundamental computer literacy.
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions and directions.
Ability to complete assigned projects with a minimal amount of supervision.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Fundamental knowledge of maintenance trades.
Ability to learn building codes, tool and shop safety, and fire codes.
Ability to establish harmonious working relationships with coworkers and the public.
Ability to manage quickly-changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical ability to work in inclement weather and lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid Virginia driver's license.

Responsibilities

Performs maintenance tasks including installation, repair and upkeep of buildings, equipment and systems.
Manages and executes preventative maintenance tasks.
Assists with construction and special projects.
Works individually or as part of a team.
Coordinates outsourced work with vendors.
Reads drawings, schematics, plans and blueprints.
