Job summary

Grain Valley R-5 School District OPERATIONS in Grain Valley, Missouri is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain clean and safe facilities for the district.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms and halls, assisting with HVAC regulation, shoveling walks, checking exits, and ensuring all buildings are secure at day’s end.

This 12-month, non-exempt position offers hourly wages from $17.05 to $19.30; starting date is August 24, 2026, with an application deadline of August 21, 2026.

Qualifications

• Dependable and self-motivated.
• Must be able to lift 60 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Able to read labels and other work-related materials.
• Must be able to work in all climate weather.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
• Assists with regulating heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems to maintain appropriate temperatures and conserve resources.
• Shovels, plows, and applies ice melt on walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps.
• Checks daily that exit doors are opened/closed and panic bolts work; ensures buildings are secure.
• Cleans classrooms daily and dusts furniture per schedule.
• Cleans corridors daily and as needed.
• Mops, scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily; cleans fixtures and drinking fountains.
• Replaces light bulbs as directed to ensure proper lighting.
• Performs periodic inspections of electrical cords, lights, and receptacles for safety.
• Keeps custodial equipment clean and in good order.
• Reports safety concerns to Custodial Supervisor and Directors.
• Other duties as assigned.
