Job summary

Madison City Schools Midtown Elementary in Madison, Alabama seeks a dedicated Custodian for 240 days of full-time work. The role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students and staff, with daily cleaning tasks and periodic floor care.

Starting Date: To Be Determined. The position requires a high school diploma (preferred), a valid Alabama driver’s license, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools, materials and methods for resurfacing and shampooing floors.
• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of general cleaning practices.
• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, and reach overhead.
• Ability to supervise summer workers.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and grounds neat and clean.
• Inspects exit doors and panic bolts during occupancy.
• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts furniture daily.
• Strips, waxes and buffs floors as directed.
• Cleans toilets and fixtures daily; disinfects.
• Cleans corridors after school and during the day as needed.
• Washes windows yearly or as needed.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance as required.
