Santa Fe Trail USD 434 is seeking a full-time School District Nurse for the 2026-27 school year. An LPN or RN license is preferred, with pediatric experience helpful. The nurse will provide school health services under KS Nurse Practice Act guidelines and report to the District Nurse and Building Principal.

School District Nurse

Job Description

Santa Fe Trail USD 434 has an immediate opening for a full-time school year nursing staff member for the 2026-27 school year. LPN or RN certification preferred. Pediatric experience helpful.

Purpose: The school district nurse is responsible for providing school health services to pupils functioning within the guidelines of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing and adheres to district policies and administrative guidelines. The nurse reports to the Building Principal and the District Nurse. The nurse works closely with the staff and administration of USD 434.

Duty Year: School Year

Payment Rate: According to Nursing Salary Schedule

Qualifications: 1. Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse

• Must have a current license to practice in Kansas
• Must stay current in the field through professional study

and involvement, in-service education, and/or workshops

• Must have at least two (2) years of professional experience
• Must have current certification in CPR
• Must have a Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after employment offer is made)
• Must maintain a professional appearance
• Must be dependable in attendance and observance of duty hours
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff and public
• Must demonstrate competency in computer technology skills
• Must maintain confidentiality, apply new concepts quickly, adapt easily to change, and demonstrate a high degree of organizational skills and attention to detail
• Must have the ability to work independently within established guidelines
• Must support the philosophy and mission of USD 434

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials not to exceed 25 pounds without assistance
• Ability to stoop, bend and reach without difficulty
• Ability to work in a noisy, crowded environment
• Ability to function under stress
• Physical stamina to respond to emergencies

Responsibilities: 1.Perform selected nursing tasks, procedures and student health

assessments

• Maintain school health records and data entry for nursing services for the assigned clinic
• Administer medications to students per district policy and doctors’ orders
• Provide health screenings and follow up
• Assist with immunization audits and follow up on deficiencies
• Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases, including reporting communicable diseases to the District Nurse
• Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
• Utilize effective communication skills and teamwork approach to promote optimal health of students and staff
• Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques
• Maintain nurse licensure and all appropriate certifications
• Other duties as assigned by the District Nurse and/or the Building Principal
