Shelton School District is hiring Substitute Custodians to join our Maintenance team for the 2026-2027 school year. This substitute position has no guarantee of hours or days. The role pays $17.50 per hour and is non-exempt, with overtime eligibility.

The job involves custodial services inside and outside school buildings, daily cleaning, simple maintenance, and following safety procedures. Applicants must be at least 21, have a high school diploma, and pass a federal background check.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21 years.
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Experience cleaning and maintaining carpets, hard floors, and wood floors desirable.
• Washington State Driver's License.
• Ability to pass a federal background check.
• Ability to drive and work in different locations as needed.
• Working out in inclement weather.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability and willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques in the workplace.
• Ability and willingness to work with students with varying disabilities both cognitive and physical.
• Excellent communication skills in writing and orally.
• Maintain an upbeat, positive, collaborative demeanor.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment.

Responsibilities

• Dust mop, sweep, wet mop, spray-buff floors.
• Vacuuming, spot/stain removal, extraction cleaning or bonnet buffing of carpeted floors.
• Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and restock supplies.
• Remove extraneous dirt from walls, doors, and surfaces.
• Perform cleaning tasks including toilets, vomit, excrement; use proper gloves and safety procedures.
• Dust, clean, and polish furniture; clean elevators and stairwells.
• Oversee public areas and exterior surroundings; remove litter.
• Pressure wash exterior sidewalks; set up rooms for events.
• Open/close buildings; ensure safety and follow district SOPs.
