Job summary

Plano Community Unit School District 88 is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment. The role covers school facilities, classrooms, corridors, and common areas, with responsibilities that include cleaning, basic maintenance, and security tasks.

The ideal candidate has good physical stamina, can operate ladders and lift weights, and is able to perform summer maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• Passed physical examination.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Willing and able to climb a six foot stepladder and lift forty pounds.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.
• Shovels, plows, and/or salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as appropriate.
• Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open, all panic bars are working properly, and all entrance doors are kept secured during occupancy.
• Daily sweeps/vacuums classrooms, empties wastebaskets and cleans/disinfects furniture and related areas.
• Cleans corridors after school or as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects toilet floors and fixtures daily.
• Washes interior and exterior windows at least twice yearly.
• Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
• Maintains clean and attractive floors and surfaces.
• Cleans chalkboards/whiteboards as needed.
• Assists with building repairs under supervision.
• Reports repairs promptly to supervisor.
• Reports damage to property immediately.
• Remains on the premises during school hours and during approved non-school hours.
• Ensures doors, windows, and lights are secured when leaving.
• Reports inventory and requisitions supplies as needed.
• Performs ongoing maintenance and repair tasks.
• Moves furniture or equipment as directed for activities.
• Complies with waste storage and disposal procedures.
• Performs summer maintenance activities including moving furniture, floor cleaning, waxing, and repairs.
• Demonstrates cooperation and punctuality; attends regularly and dresses appropriately.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Principal.
