Job summary

Jefferson School District 251 is seeking a part-time Custodian to help maintain the cleanliness and safety of Jefferson Elementary School. The role is physical and requires the ability to work with staff, students and the public, and to perform routine building upkeep.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms and bathrooms, handling basic maintenance, and ensuring doors and windows are secure at the start and end of each day, with regular attendance and ethical conduct expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred.
• Read and write at a minimum of a 9th grade level.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
• Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
• Capable of lifting up to 55 pounds.
• Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.
• May assist in regulating heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and conserve energy.
• Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as necessary.
• Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during occupancy.
• Sweeps and vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
• Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when needed.
• Cleans bathrooms daily; disinfects fixtures and drinking fountains.
• Washes all windows as assigned by Lead Custodian.
• Maintains floors in a clean and attractive condition.
