Job summary

Family Life Academy Charter Schools is seeking a School Custodian to provide custodial services at the assigned site, ensuring a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role reports to the Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor for annual evaluation.

The position involves cleaning classrooms, offices, gym, and restrooms; performing light maintenance and repairs; and traveling to nearby schools as needed. NYS fingerprint clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Previous custodian/janitorial experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

Job description

The School Custodian provides custodial services at the assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The School Custodian is an important part of the FLACS family, working to ensure the readiness of FLACS schools, under the supervision of the building's Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor who will provide an annual evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment while adhering to maximum safety procedures.
• Move books, files, boxes, furniture, etc.
• Clean and sterilize all high-use areas to reduce the spread of bacteria and any other harmful agents.
• Travel to nearby schools or warehouse/storage as required.
• Perform maintenance of the building, such as drywall repairs; minor carpentry; classroom furniture; replacing light bulbs, & fixtures; painting projects; ceiling tile replacement; playground maintenance, athletic areas, grounds repairs; equipment audits, building inspections; safety issues, repairs; small landscaping projects; additional items as they arise.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
• Maintain exterior of the sites, including snow/ice removal, trash removal, etc. as needed.
• Carry a handheld radio at all times while on school property if assigned by the Supervisor.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
• Report and assist with all emergencies as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum high school graduate required with continuing education or facilities related preferred but not required.
• Very good physical condition and strength. Has the ability to lift 35+ lbs.

• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
• Nurturing spirit and welcoming personality.
• Has a valid Driver's License (preferred).
• NYS fingerprint clearance required.
