Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking a dedicated Custodian Day to join the Custodial and Maintenance team. This full-time, non-exempt role supports cafeteria and classroom areas with daily cleaning, floor care, and basic maintenance.

The position reports to the Building Lead and District officials and participates in events setup and facility upkeep. Candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in custodial work, and knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or facilities experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize cafeteria floors, tables, chairs, counters, and food preparation areas daily.
• Sweep, mop, and disinfect kitchen and dining area floors, including grease and spill removal.
• Clean glass and organize cafeteria equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
• Empty trash cans and replace liners; ensure proper disposal of waste and recycling.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen appliances and work surfaces.
• Assist with snow removal and ice management for entrances, walkways, and parking areas.
• Set up and take down furniture, tables, and equipment for events or activities.
• Maintain common areas, hallways, and entrances in a clean, orderly condition.
• Enter school work orders for building repairs and closeout when complete.
• Report facility issues or safety hazards to the building's lead promptly.
