Job Summary:

The School Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position involves routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and ensuring the school facilities are in good working order each day.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors and hallways
• Vacuum carpets and rugs in classrooms, offices, and common areas
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, refill soap and paper supplies
• Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly
• Wash windows, walls, and other surfaces as needed
• Lock and unlock doors, ensure the building is secured after hours
• Set up and break down furniture or equipment for school events or meetings
• Report safety hazards or major repair needs to the appropriate supervisor
• Maintain cleaning equipment and notify supervisor of supply needs
• Follow all safety and health guidelines while handling cleaning products

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Prior custodial or janitorial experience is a plus
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks daily
• Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and supplies
• Ability to work independently and follow a schedule
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Must pass a background check and any required clearances for working in a school setting
