Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a custodial staff member to perform extensive cleaning and maintenance across school buildings and facilities. The role includes floor care, trash removal, window cleaning, and general upkeep to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

Successful candidates will demonstrate reliability, the ability to lift heavy objects, and experience with cleaning chemicals and safety practices.

Qualifications

• Experience performing custodial tasks in large facilities.
• Ability to lift up to 50–100 pounds and operate cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, safety and waste disposal.
• Reliability and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sweep, mop, and buff floors inside and outside classrooms, offices, hallways and lobbies.
• Dust, wipe, and polish surfaces and furniture; clean windows and chalkboards.
• Restock dispensers, empty trash, and assist with setup of meetings, events and classrooms.
• Shovel snow and spread salt when needed; operate power equipment and store supplies properly.
