Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a reliable School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties in designated areas at K-12 or higher education campuses in Kalamazoo. The role operates on the 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:00pm to 11:30pm, within the Kalamazoo School District.

Starting pay is $17.70 per hour with weekly pay, and ABM provides onboarding support and a benefits package. No prior education or experience is required beyond the ability to perform routine cleaning tasks and follow

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required; on-the-job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices and stairs.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls; polish wood/steel surfaces.
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture and equipment to cleaning areas, manually or with hand trucks.
• Clean interior glass, windows and mirrors using cleaners, sponges and squeegees.
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, and perform seasonal tasks; maintain restroom cleanliness.
• Comply with safety, security, compliance and quality standards established by the Company and authorities.

• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers, etc.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceiling, and walls - Polish hard surfaces, e.g. woodwork, stainless steel surfaces
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
• Maintain the cleanliness of restrooms (clean and polish as needed)
• Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• No experience required and on the job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior customer service experience
• One (1) year of prior similar work experience.
