Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a reliable School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties at K-12 or higher education campuses. The role includes cleaning classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas, with responsibilities spanning sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and dusting. The position offers on-site work, day or night schedules, and on-the-job training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required and on the job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairs.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check and empty trash receptacles in all designated areas.
• Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Notify supervisor of needed repairs or additions to building systems.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
• Sort and recycle waste appropriately.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls; polish surfaces.
• Wipe tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed for cleaning.
• Clean interior glass, windows, partitions, and mirrors as required.
• Sweep, rake leaves, and perform seasonal outdoor tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and ensure safety procedures are followed.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 5am-1:30pm or Sunday-Thursday 10pm-6:30am

• Clean and maintain assigned area, which may include classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, office, and stairways
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas
• Regularly check trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all designated areas
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers, etc.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceiling, and walls - Polish hard surfaces, e.g. woodwork, stainless steel surfaces
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
• Maintain the cleanliness of restrooms (clean and polish as needed)
• Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior customer service experience
• One (1) year of prior similar work experience.
