Job summary

Independence School District is seeking a Crossing Guard to safely guide students and parents across crosswalks near assigned schools. You will learn to identify gaps in traffic, supervise safe crossings, and report hazards to the Director of Public Safety.

The role requires clear communication, reliability, and basic PC familiarity, with a nine-month employment term and potential duties during summer school as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum education of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Missouri State operator's license.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
• Must be able to carry approximately twenty (20) pounds a distance of fifty (50) yards.
• Must able to speak clearly and communicate with children and adults.
• Must be familiar with a personal computer.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable

Responsibilities

• Assure traffic has stopped in both directions on two lane city streets in front of designated schools in all types of weather conditions
• Learn to identify safe gaps on a two lane city street, so that children can cross the street safely
• Observe and report any safety hazards or suspicious activity to the building principal and Director of Public Safety
• Demonstrate dependability by being on time
• Display a good attitude, work ethic and ability to make good decisions regarding controlling traffic and the safety of children
• Ability to focus on duties amid numerous distractions
• Pleasant, outgoing personality
• Complete other duties as defined and assigned
