Job summary

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking a School Crossing Guard to assist children and other pedestrians across streets at designated intersections, under the supervision of the School Crossing Regional Supervisor.

Candidates must be in good physical condition, able to move quickly to avert danger, and capable of communicating instructions clearly and courteously to ensure safe crossings; tobacco/nicotine-free during employment.

Qualifications

• Good physical condition, including sight, hearing and mobility.
• Ability to clearly, firmly and courteously communicate instructions.
• Ability to control a STOP paddle to guide crossing pedestrians.
• Ability to recognize dangerous traffic and warn students in time.
• Tobacco/nicotine free during length of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist school children and other pedestrians across streets at designated intersections.
• Maintain an alert attitude to prevent hazardous traffic situations.
• Direct and manage crossing movements using a STOP paddle.
