Job summary

Priority Dispatch Corp. is seeking dependable individuals to serve as Crossing Guards for the City of York. You will help children cross streets, direct traffic, monitor vehicle flow, and coordinate with police and school staff to ensure safety.

Applicants should be 18+, able to work outdoors in various weather, and pass background checks. The role supports youth safety along GO Safe Walking Route corridors and offers split-shift hours at busy intersections.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of the City of York’s basic background check.
• Provide PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record History, FBI Fingerprint-based Background Check.
• Ability to stand for long periods during peak traffic times.
• Able to work in various weather conditions.
• Wear assigned high visibility gear and carry and utilize assigned equipment.
• Report hazardous conditions to the appropriate authorities.
• Willing to assist and/or intercede in emergency issues involving children.

Responsibilities

• Assist children and pedestrians in safely crossing streets.
• Direct traffic at designated crosswalks.
• Monitor the flow of vehicles to ensure student safety.
• Communicate with Police Department personnel and school officials about safety concerns.
• Provide a visible presence to deter potential accidents and incidents.
• Help educate students on safe pedestrian practices.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor when dealing with children, parents, residents, travelers, school staff, and city personnel.
• Follow directions and coordinate with supervisors to achieve goals.
• Be prepared to respond to emergencies affecting children.
