Job summary

Harford County Sheriff's Office is seeking crossing guards to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians at school crossings. Permanent positions start at $20.67 per hour with pension and medical benefits; on-call roles pay $20.57 per hour and do not include benefits.

Selected candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license with minimal points, and pass a thorough background check, medical exam, and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with no more than 3 points and a clean record.
• Must pass comprehensive background investigation and medical exam; drug/alcohol screening; polygraph exam.
• Must provide handwriting sample for review.
• Must appear before and receive favorable recommendation from Oral Interview Board.

Responsibilities

• Stop vehicular traffic to allow for safe pedestrian passage at designated school crossing locations.
• Place warning devices at traffic control points.
• Render basic first aid to injured persons as needed.
• Maintain orderly control of pedestrians at crossings.
• Report hazardous conditions at traffic control points.
• Attend meetings and required training programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
