An established industry player is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as School Crossing Guards. This part-time role involves controlling traffic and ensuring the safety of school children at designated crossings. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions effectively. You will work approximately 10 hours per week during the school year, providing essential support to the community. ONLY Non-Merit (Part-time) vacancies exist in the Police Department for these positions.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Under general supervision, controls vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement at designated intersections and crossings. Supervision is received through periodic checks by police personnel at the assigned work location.
The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. They may not include all of the essential job functions of each position in the class. Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.
You must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment and must have access to a means of transportation to and from assigned work locations.
You must have the ability to read, write, and speak the English language. You must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. You must work in all weather conditions and walk and stand for extended periods. No previous school guard experience is required.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applications will be reviewed by the Police Department School Crossing Guard Team. If you are selected for an interview the Police Department will contact you. Employees must be able to pass initial training provided by the Police Department and demonstrate the ability to perform the required audio and visual signals necessary to control traffic.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification frequently requires walking and standing for long periods of time, traveling between work sites, exposure to motor vehicle traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
Persons in this classification will work an average of ten hours per week (approximately 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at the end of the school day) during the school year (10 months, August to June).
A limited number of summer school positions may be available at various times from June to August for established School Guards.
Employees use equipment consisting of a whistle, hand-held stop sign, and flares, and are required to wear a uniform.
Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.
