Position: School Crossing Guard

Job Description

Under the direction of Georgetown Township and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the School Crossing Guard provides assistance to children and other pedestrians in crossing at specified streets along school routes and performs related work as required. Pay is $30.00 an hour.

Must be able to attend a mandatory training on August 5, 2025 at 9:00 am at the Township Office.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures the safe crossing of students at specific school crossing locations by assembling children and other pedestrians behind curb lines awaiting traffic lulls or signal changes
  • Stops traffic and escorts pedestrians into the street allowing them to cross safely.
  • Communicates clearly, effectively and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, Township staff, and others.
  • Follows safe work standards and practices and demonstrates the use of sound judgment.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Desirable Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to safely perform the duties of a School Crossing Guard.
  • Must complete a total of four hours of training upon hire. (Two hours covering proper crossing practices and safety / two hours job shadowing)
  • Acceptable criminal history record.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Requires stamina to stand for long periods of time, walk, use hands, fingers and arms, including reaching, bending, stopping, kneeling and squatting to assist pedestrians as necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • The noise level in the work environment will vary from moderate to loud.
