Job description

  • The purpose of this classification is to ensure a safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians throughout school zones.
  • The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Assist children and adults at school street crossings; Expedite the movement of children and traffic to and from the school.
  • This position only works during the regular school calendar and while school is in session; Incumbent usually works 10-20 hours per week.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required; Completion of the Henry County Police Training Division Traffic Direction Training (one day course).
  • Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Basic law enforcement traffic direction skills; knowledge of hand and whistle signals; ability to deal courteously with the general public; Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires the ability the exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require standing for extended periods of time. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, or rude/irate customers.
