Job summary

TrulyHired is seeking an Elementary School Counselor to support Pre-K through 5th grade students at Cherryvale Elementary School in Sumter, South Carolina. The role reports to the Building Level Principal and focuses on counseling within a school setting.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in School Counseling with a valid SC educator certification for Elementary School Counseling, and will work 195 days per year.

• Valid South Carolina educator certification in Elementary School Counseling.

Responsibilities

• Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.
• Guides in the decision making processes concerning academics and personal/social development.
• Helps students evaluate their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics for educational planning.
• Consults with outside resources/agencies to maximize and coordinate the use of available services.
• Consults with parents regarding their children, school related issues, and meetings for special purposes.
• Assists students in developing self-confidence and a positive self-concept.
• Assists students in strengthening interpersonal skills.
• Attends staff, professional and inter-agency meetings.
• Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
• Participates in regular staff meetings and ongoing trainings.
