Job summary

Lake Ridge Schools is seeking a School Counselor in Gary, Indiana to support students’ personal, academic, and social-emotional goals as they transition from middle school to adolescence. Responsibilities

  • Work with various public agencies to provide educational programs for the betterment of students.
  • Encourage and facilitate the exploration of college and career planning through planned activities.
  • Remain readily available to students to provide counseling services that will lead each student to increased personal, academic, and college/career success.
  • Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to home, family and peer relationships.
  • Establish and facilitate a line of communication between the school and the home.
  • Provide guidance for teachers in supporting students' social emotional health while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Register students who are new to the school and provide the support necessary in order to ease the transition into a new school environment.
  • Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality. To include, not limited to: the posting of grades; recording/filing test scores; complete reports to social agencies.
  • Assist in the disbursement of student outcomes such as progress and assessment reports, report cards, and college and career readiness plans.
  • Recommend students as necessary for psychological evaluation with regards to physical, learning, or emotional difficulties.
  • Organize and supervise the administration of Statewide testing.
  • Assume building principal's duties in the absence of both the building principal and the assistant principal.
  • Facilitate the transition to the high school through cooperation with the high school counselors when scheduling for the 9th grade.
  • Assist in the development of the master schedule and scheduling of students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Middle School Counselor is to help students develop their personal, academic and social emotional goals to assist them in successfully navigating the social, physical and personal pressures encountered in the transition from adolescent years to adulthood. The Middle School Counselor will:

  1. Work with various public agencies to provide educational programs for the betterment of students.

  3. Remain readily available to students to provide counseling services that will lead each student to increased personal, academic, and college/career success.
