Job summary

Mount Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, AK is seeking a skilled Cook to join our Food Services team. You will prepare nutritious meals for students and staff, following recipes, menus, and safety guidelines in a cafeteria kitchen.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year cooking experience in a food service, cafeteria or restaurant setting.
• Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Prepare a wide variety of food items (main courses, sides, soups, salads, baked goods) per recipes and schedules.
• Follow menus and production sheets to ensure timely meal prep.
• Safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment (ovens, stoves, grills, steamers, mixers, slicers).
• Maintain food safety with proper storage and HACCP guidelines.
• Monitor temperatures and cooking times for safe, thorough cooking.
• Ensure proper portion control and presentation of foods.
• Assist with inventory and inform supervisors of needed items.
• Keep work areas clean and organized per sanitation rules.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff for smooth operations.
• Assist with catering for events as needed.
• Adapt recipes for cultural relevance as directed.
