Job summary

Williamsburg James City School District is seeking a part-time Cafeteria Worker to assist the Cafeteria Manager in preparing nutritious meals for students and staff. The role includes cooking, serving, cashier duties, and maintaining sanitation in a school kitchen.

The position requires adherence to safety and nutrition guidelines, annual training under the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with students and school staff.
• Ability to apply standard weights and measures to recipes.
• Must possess a valid food handler’s card from local health department.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds daily for short periods of time.
• Must be able to stand and walk for up to 5 hours.
• Must be able to read standardized recipes.
• General knowledge of the use and care of food preparation equipment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school staff.
• Must be able to work in extreme temperature variations from very warm inside the kitchen area to freezing temperatures inside the walk-in freezers.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and/or cooks proteins, grains, vegetables, and other food items as directed by the Cafeteria Manager.
• Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of cooking equipment and prepares foods according to recipes.
• Bakes, roasts, and steams foods ensuring adherence to time per recipe.
• Sets up serving line and ensures lines are stocked.
• Serves designated portions with proper portion control.
• Follows standardized recipes and safety procedures.
• Maintains sanitation and personal hygiene per guidelines.
• Checks in grocery orders and stores items properly.
• Performs cashier duties as assigned and records reimbursable meals.
